That is not a brand story invented afterwards. It is how JSR Construction actually began, and it still explains how the company works.
JSR Construction was set up to help family and friends build their homes. The first clients were people who would still be at the same barbecues afterwards, which is a particular kind of accountability — you cannot hand a job over and move on, and you certainly cannot argue about a variation on the final invoice.
The company grew the way that kind of work grows: by referral, one house at a time. That is still the part we care most about. Whoever you meet at the first conversation is the person who prices your job, runs your site and answers the phone when you ring — and that does not change once the contract is signed.
What has changed is the paperwork. Building for friends, everything was understood; nobody needed it written down. Building for people who have not met us before, all of it gets written down — the price, the inclusions, the variations and the guarantee.

The builder you meet is the builder who runs the job.
Ricky Wong, Director of JSR Construction Limited, leads each JSR build from the first site conversation through pricing, construction and handover. He remains the direct point of contact once the work moves from drawings to site.
He has spent more than 30 years in construction. Before Christchurch that meant delivering projects in Malaysia and Singapore, which is a different climate, a different code and a different set of trades — and it is where the habit of checking the ground before believing the drawing comes from.
Here that experience covers custom homes on established suburban sections, new Canterbury subdivisions and technically demanding hillside sites: coordinating designers and consultants, testing a design against its budget, managing trades on site and dealing with the practical details that sit behind a finished home.
He is not the only person who can answer you. John Wong is the company’s other director, a graduate architect working in the building industry. One builder running your job is the point; one builder being the only person who knows anything about it is a risk, and it is not one you are carrying here.

Say the difficult thing early
If the budget will not carry the design, or the ground is going to cost more than anyone hoped, you hear it at the point we know — not at the point it becomes unavoidable.
Nothing changes without your signature
Every variation is priced and approved in writing before the work happens. This is the single most common place a build goes wrong, and it is entirely preventable.
Build the parts nobody sees properly
Drainage, retaining, framing, flashings, insulation. The finish is the easy part, and it is the only part most people can inspect.
